University of Maine Cooperative Extension’s hands-on food preservation workshops will teach you the basics of canning and freezing jams and jellies, including how to use a water bath canner to preserve jam. We will provide fresh produce and canning jars. Please bring a pot holder to the workshop.

Many providers and patients in Maine are still not familiar with Maine’s Death with Dignity Act. In effect since September 2019, the law permits physicians to practice medical aid-in-dying under specific circumstances. Join this class to get fact-based information and all the details you need to know about Maine’s law, how to have the conversation with your physician, and how to qualify for the law or support your loved one who maybe qualifying. This class is offered virtual over ZOOM, you will be sent a link prior to class.

Macraweave Wall Hanging

For anyone who has admired fiber art and thought creating their own would be far too complicated, this is the class for you! Alicia will break the process into simple steps that will have you creating from the very first class! To create your own Macraweave wall hanging, you will learn basic macrame knots in addition to weaving techniques. During this 4 week series Alicia will guide you through every step of the creation process, from learning techniques, choosing driftwood, yarns and cords, and creating your own stylized version of the chosen design! In addition to your own work of art, you will leave this class with the knowledge and skills to continue creating the macraweave of your dreams

Estate Planning – Prepare for the Uncertainties of Life and Revocable Trusts & Irrevocable Trusts – Are They Right for You?

This class will begin with an overview of basic estate planning, including Wills, Powers of Attorney, Health Care Directives, etc. The class will then delve into, learning how revocable trusts can help avoid probate and protect your privacy, and how irrevocable trusts can protect your assets from nursing home or Maine Care (Medicaid) liens. Discussion will include other strategies to safeguard assets from life events such as business failure or divorce of adult children. Kathryn Bedell is a lawyer in York, Maine and has been practicing for 31 years. Her practice focuses on estate planning, asset preservation, and probate matters.
