Marine Research at the UNH Marine Lab

Located on the picturesque mouth of the Piscataqua River in NewCastle, NH the UNH Marine Lab Center supports a variety of marine-related projects and ongoing research as part of its mission for the Seacoast and the Gulf of Maine. Embark on a walking tour of the Marine Lab and it's current research projects being carried out by UNH Faculty, students, and associated scientists. Learn about lobster mating, jonah crab growth, see lumpfish and other marine creatures along the way. Bring your favorite marine biology questions for an interactive tour and discussion. Please meet at the Public Parking lot at the UNH Judd Gregg Marine Research Center.

Quilling II - Advanced Beginner/Intermediate

NEW Class Just Added: 

Some previous Quilling experience needed. Quilling is the rolling of narrow strips of pre-cut quilling paper around a quilling tool. The paper is then looped, curled, twisted and otherwise manipulated to create shapes which make up designs to decorate.  Bring to class: Materials list supplied at registration.

Sahaja Yoga

Sahaja Yoga is a unique method of meditation developed by H.H. Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi (1923-2011) and based on an experience called Self Realization (kundalini awakening) that can occur within each human being. Through this process an inner transformation takes place by which one becomes balanced and integrated mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually. In this class we will learn chakra clearing techniques using natural elements and affirmations that will deepen the meditation experience. Sahaja Yoga does not require physical exercise and no previous experience is necessary. For twenty years, Jerry has voluntarily shared Sahaja Yoga in universities, libraries, prisons, rehabilitation facilities, senior centers, and street fairs.

Sailboat Racing

This course will cover the basics of yacht racing with an emphasis on local PSA Evening and Weekend racing.  The Racing Rules are discussed, as is boat speed, crew assignments, prep, and tactics. Move up in your fleet or simply discover a new way to get out there on your boat! Tom is currently the long standing  Race Committee's Principal Race Officer and brings many  years of experience racing at all levels from Clubs to World Class events.

Sailing Fundamentals

This four evening course will be a discussion on how boats and sails work, tips, sail trim and best practices.  Stories and Topics both past and present are welcome for analysis.  Those new to sailing as well as seasoned sailors will all greatly benefit from this course. Tom Brown is the long running Principal Race Office for Yacht Racing in the Seacoast.  He has over 40 yrs. sailing experience including racing at a very high level, has been a delivery and charter boat Captain, and a partner in a NYC adult sailing school.  He is certified through all levels with the American Sailing Association.  He is currently in management at Great Bay Marine.
