Empathy & Authenticity: Pathways to Vibrant, Fulfilling Relationships

In this course students both enhance their ability to listen empathically and develop a clear sense of how this critical skill relates to personal development, authenticity and greater fulfillment in relationships. The course includes brief demonstrations of empathic listening and small group (dyads and triads) activities. Students are encouraged to practice empathic listening outside the classroom. Successes and challenges in such efforts are presented and discussed. Peter taught for 46 years in UNH's Psychology Department. He greatly enjoys teaching and having fun and laughter in the classroom.

Incorporating oils into your cooking does many wonderful things, some of which are: enhancing flavor, providing the body with their health benefits, safety and convenience. Great examples of delicious and beneficial oils will be shared along with tasting recipes. Take home a small sample of essential oils to get you started.

Grow Your Own Organic Garden

Presented by the Maine Organic Farmers & Gardeners Association (MOFGA)

Interested in learning how to grow your own vegetables in a sustainable manner? Join us for an evening-long workshop on how to grow your own garden organically. We’ll talk about the basics of soil science and how to enrich your soil to produce healthy, high-yielding plants. The course will also cover the fundamentals of making and using compost, the principles of crop rotation and how to incorporate green manures to manage nutrients in the garden. Other topics will include how to tell the difference between cultivated plants and weeds, basic weed control strategies and cultural methods for dealing with pests.  The instructor will be an experienced farmer or gardener from your region. We will even send you home with free seeds!  All are welcome, from first-timers to experienced gardeners who want to experiment with new techniques.

Healthcare Advocacy Basics - Navigating the Medical System for your Parents & Yourself

We use our experience to help individuals prepare to care for their parents, other loved ones or themselves. Mike and Jennie are native Kittery residents. Jennie is a retired Human Resource professional and Mike is an Elder Law Attorney. Both are experienced caregivers and healthcare advocates including end of life experience.
